8 Tips for the perfect confetti moment!

Quite possibly our favourite part of any wedding is confetti time! It’s an explosion of colour, happiness and overwhelming joy that you’ve just gotten hitched and it’s time to start celebrating! We get asked frequently how to make the most of this moment so see below some helpful tips to ensure your confetti goes off with a bang!

Go big or go home!

The famous saying ‘less is more’ is completely redundant when it comes to confetti. Imagine what you’re planning on having then double it! Just think, you want every guest to have a large handful (oi oi) or two.

tunnel of love

This is not the official title for the set up but there’s no better way to describe it! Us along with some helpful bridesmaids and usher will be on hand to get your guest lined up either side to form a walk-way for you. It’s a great way to see everyone’s happy, beaming faces and them see yours!

walk the walk

We totally understand that you can’t wait to get to the end of the aisle and grab a well needed drink but take your time. A nice, steady, slow walk is perfect for fully taking in the moment, perhaps even stop halfway for a cheeky kiss! It gives everyone a chance to give it their best throw and it also helps prevent your photographer/videographer from falling as they run backwards capturing your excited faces. Speaking of faces, try your very hardest not to pull silly ones! We know it sounds challenging as obviously your natural instinct is to blink as people chuck something at you, but get your best game face on!

Make your own

Why not add an extra personal touch by making the confetti yourself, it’s so easy and you can ask family and friends to help. We ourselves make our own for back up emergencies! What we do is once a bunch of fresh flowers are in full bloom, we free the petals from the stem and lay them out on a large tray making sure the petals are separated and spread out. We then pop the tray in a sunny, dry, warm spot like a window ledge, the top of the boiler or below sky light and wait a week or two until they have completely dried out. Once dried we add them to an air tight container and voila! The confetti can then be added to baskets, cones or however you fancy on the big day.

What if it’s raining?!

Have no fear! A bit of water isn’t going to stop the fun! If the rains not too heavy then get the brollies up and get out there, it can make for such a fun shot with the additional colour from all the umbrellas. You could also check with your venue beforehand, some allow you to do it inside as your coming down the aisle in poor weather conditions. And if worse comes to worse, don’t panic, we will find another moment in the day to do it, perhaps as you go in for your dinner or during the first dance.

Put them to work

As wonderfully helpful your wedding co-ordinator might be handing out the confetti it might be best to get a flower girl, page boy, usher or bridesmaid to do it. Not because we think they’ll do a better job, it’s just great to get as many photo opportunities of your wedding party as possible that we know you’ll look back on and love.

There’s a confetti ban

You can be left completely gutted when you want that confetti experience but your venue or church won’t allow it, but don’t stress, there’s always a way round it. Try bubbles instead, it can be just as pretty! Or perhaps make ribbon wands for guests to shake! And if you are getting married in the winter there is always the chance for sparklers before you go in for your first dance.

Just enjoy it!

And lastly after mentioning all of the above, just soak it all up! There’s not many times in your life that you’ll have everyone you love in one place at the same time cheering for you and showering you with joy, so take it all in, you’re married at last! Whoop!
