Philippa & Dan
The Barns at redcoats

Okay, not to get overly dramatic (so unlike me I know), but this one did feel a bit emotional, not just because Philippa and Dan are absolute gems, but because this was my last wedding of the year at The Barns at Redcoats. One of my all-time favourite venues, and yes, I am already counting the days until I’m back! But what a way to wrap up the Redcoats chapter for 2025 – with the gorgeous, hilarious, and madly-in-love Philippa and Dan.
Morning prep was chilled, joyful, and full of laughter. The lovely Sasha Wren was on hair and makeup, and when I say the room was full of good vibes, I mean it, a bunch of brilliant women having a good giggle, and (not so) occasionally spying on arriving guests and the groom from the window. Now here’s a fun twist that I’d genuinely never had before…Dan helped choose the wedding dress! And you know what? It made total sense. These two are best friends, soulmates, absolutely in sync and Dan clearly has excellent taste (hence choice in wife), because the dress was perfect. 10/10, no notes.
Phlox Designs were on flowers, and I always do a happy dance when I see them on the supplier list. Utterly gorgeous blooms in soft blues, yellows, and creams, tying in beautifully with the bridesmaids’ mix-and-match blue dresses. Philippa’s approach was to let them choose styles they’d wear again – amen to that!
Before the ceremony, I asked the classic question: “Do you think you’ll cry?” Both confidently said no. Fast-forward to the actual ceremony and... yep, floods of tears. Beautiful, heartfelt vows that had the entire room in bits. And to top it off, the ceremony was led by a family friend, which made it all feel even more personal and warm.
Now let’s take a moment for the cake. Not just any cake, oh no – a special delivery from Bettys, the bride’s favourite Yorkshire bakery. I didn’t ask how it got to Hitchin in one piece, but I wish I had. And naturally, it was cut with the family’s trusty sword… because, obviously. And then it was party time. JN Sounds were on top form as ever, and Dom Plays Sax (who I think I’ve seen more than my own postman this year!) absolutely brought the house down. The dance floor was buzzing and stayed that way all night!
So that’s a wrap on Redcoats for this year! And what a send-off! Philippa and Dan, thank you for being the warm, wonderful humans you are and for throwing such a fun, love-filled day. The University surf club really did something right bringing you two together!
Personal Highlight:
It had to be the way these two look at each other… honestly, it’s the same look I give a waiter when my food’s finally on its way… pure love and total devotion!
