Shooting weddings at The Barns at Redcoats in Hitchin is always a joy, and Verity and George’s special day was no exception. In fact, it had everything I love about weddings: a wonderful couple, an incredible venue, and, to my absolute delight, not one but two dogs - Nutmeg and Maple! I hadn’t yet met Verity and George in person before their big day (in fact we’re not even sure if we had spoken on the phone!), but the moment I arrived, it felt like we’d known each other for ages. They are both incredibly warm and friendly, with a shared passion for travel, good food, and living life to the fullest.
Now, anyone who knows me knows I’m obsessed with dogs at weddings, so you can imagine my excitement when I found out that Nutmeg and Maple would be part of the ceremony. They nearly stole the show as they made their entrance, all eyes were on those wagging tails. And as Verity and George exchanged vows, the sky outside rumbled with thunder. Goosebumps! It’s not every day you get thunder during a wedding ceremony!
I’ve shot many weddings at The Barns but every time I return, the team there never cease to amaze me. The staff are truly one in a million, and they were on top form again, ensuring everything flowed seamlessly throughout the day. Suzanne Humbert’s stunning floral displays perfectly complementing the rustic charm of the venue and created a cozy, romantic atmosphere that was the perfect backdrop for Verity and George’s celebration.
After a delicious dinner, we slipped out just before dessert for some more couple portraits. We caught the last light of the day, and the sky was absolutely breathtaking and dramatic, a beautiful contrast to the storm clouds beginning to gather in the distance which luckily held at bay until later that evening.
Personal Highlight:
It has to be the giant bottle of champagne! Not only did it make such a fun addition to the champagne tower but later it was used as the ‘guest book’ for everyone to sign. I love that idea!
“Honestly, we cannot thank you enough for everything you did for us on our special day - we are SO SO excited to see some photos! You were honestly amazing and all our friends and family loved you too.”
